Puerto Rico Officer Dies from Wounds Sustained in Drug Raid

Agent Geniel Amaro-Fantauzzi of the Puerto Rico Police Department succumbed Monday to gunshot wounds sustained one week earlier when he and several other agents were conducting a narcotics investigation.

Agent Geniel Amaro-Fantauzzi of the Puerto Rico Police Department succumbed Monday to gunshot wounds sustained one week earlier when he and several other agents were conducting a narcotics investigation at the April Gardens 1 public housing complex in Las Piedras.

A subject in the complex opened fire on the agents, wounding Agent Amaro-Fantauzzi and a second agent, ODMP reports. The man who shot them was arrested and charged with five counts of attempted murder in addition to other charges. Those charges will soon be elevated.

Amaro-Fantauzzi was transported to a hospital where he remained on life support until his death,
