The village of Lynchburg, OH, laid off its entire police force Friday, and will now be patrolled by the Highland County Sheriff's Office, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer.
According to a post on the Lynchburg Police Department's Facebook page, all police officers and commanders lost their jobs as of 4 p.m. Friday.
In the absence of its now-former, part-time police force, Lynchburg will be patrolled by the Highland County Sheriff's Office, said Sheriff Donnie Barrera.
Barrera said he found out about the layoffs around 5 p.m. Friday from the outgoing village police chief, adding he hadn't been contacted by any other village officials as of 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The village, about 50 miles northeast of Cincinnati in Clinton and Highland counties, is home to about 1,500 residents.
