FL Officers Rescue Woman and Baby from Hurricane Irma Flooded Home

Authorities said they believe that the family would have drowned if they had stayed trapped inside their house during the remainder of the storm.

North Miami Beach police rescued a woman and her 4-month-old baby from their flooding home Sunday as Hurricane Irma swept over South Florida.

A man who lives next door to the family called 911 about 4 p.m.

Police used an armored vehicle to drive through the neighborhood and rescue the mother and baby.

The family was taken to a shelter to wait out the rest of the storm, Local 10 News reports.

Authorities said they believe that the family would have drowned if they had stayed trapped inside their house during the remainder of the storm.
