A K-9 in Mississippi has died after suffering a heat stroke inside a deputy’s car, according to Fox News.
The six-year-old Belgian Malinois was reportedly left inside a Hinds County (MS) Deputy's car while he ate lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Deputy Lafayette Martin reportedly left his 2016 Chevy Tahoe running so the K-9 would stay cool, but the engine shut down at some point while the deputy was in the restaurant, the sheriff’s department said.
Major Pete Luke told MSNewsNow that K-9 Dex was their top drug detecting officer, having recovered over $600,000 in U.S. currency, six cars and one 18-wheeler during his career.
Dex — a top drug detection K-9 with the sheriff’s department — died within the hour, the news station reported.
