The Redlands (CA) Police Department recently awarded an officer with a Certificate of Recognition for her actions in rescuing two young children — a three-week-old infant and a 2-year-old boy — locked inside a car where the temperature had climbed to 138 degrees.
Responding to several 911 calls about the children in the car, Corporal Breanna Herrera spoke with the children's mother, a 26-year-old Loma Linda woman.
The woman said she had locked the keys in the car and that someone was on the way with a spare key. She said the children were only locked inside for a few minutes, but Corporal Herrera observed that the children were not moving.
Herrera broke a window and entered the vehicle. She found the 2-year-old boy seemed lethargic and in distress, while the infant was not moving.
The mother of the children was arrested for child endangerment, according to ABC7.
