Deputies with the Macon County (IL) Sheriff's Office were called to remove an escaped camel from Interstate 72 on Sunday.

The deputies found the animal rambling through harvested cornfields near the roadway, and chased it for and hour and a half, according to Sheriff's Lieutenant Jamie Belcher. The animal then reportedly "wore itself out" and was taken into custody by three deputies and an animal control officer, the Herald Review reported.

"Fortunately, it stayed out of traffic, stayed off the interstate, and we were able to get it safely home," Belcher said.
