The city is trying to rejuvenate the area, inviting big-name tech companies and unknown start-up ventures to move into vacant buildings.
In order to make that proposal more appealing, the San Francisco Police Department is stepping up foot patrols to enforce the law and form deeper bonds with the people who live and work in the area.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Mayor London Breed has directed the department to add as many as 10 new officers to patrol the area, working out of the Tenderloin Station.
SFPD Chief Bill Scott said the officers who soon will be walking the Mid-Market and Civic Center beats will be working closely with the health and homelessness departments to provide aid to homeless people and addicts who assemble there.
