An officer with the Greenville (AL) Police Department was hospitalized Monday after being bitten by a rattlesnake.
According to AL.com, Officer Marissa Morrison has been in the Intensive Care Unit of a local hospital after being bitten by the snake while on duty.
Morrison had stepped out of her patrol vehicle to stretch her legs after completing some end-of-shift paperwork when the snake suddenly bit her.
She quickly got back to her squad and called for assistance, and fellow officers rushed to her aid. Officers Jimmy Oliver and Tom Powell were the first to arrive and administer aid before EMS got to the scene.
Officer Oliver put Morrison in his cruiser and rushed her to the hospital.
Officers returned to the scene a short time later, killed the snake, and brought the rattle to Morrison in her hospital room.
She has been administered 16 vials of antivenin and has been told that it could be more than a month until she can return to duty.
