Several deputies with the Hall County Sheriff's Office escorted the son of a fallen colleague to his first day of fourth grade on Wednesday.

The agency posted images of the moving event on Facebook, with the caption, "Hall County Sheriff’s Deputies joined Caden Dixon and his mother Stephanie this morning as Caden began the new school year as a fourth-grader. They wanted to give Caden and Stephanie some extra support and encouragement on this first day of class. The Sheriff's Office and Hall County community are proud of them both."

Deputy Nicholas Dixon was shot and killed in early July following a vehicle pursuit of a stolen car that was believed to be involved in a series of car burglaries.

Deputy Dixon had served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office for three years.
