An officer with the Warsaw (IN) Police Department has died of complications stemming from an apparent on-duty medical emergency sustained late last month.
According to NBC News, 50-year-old Officer Jason Dobbins died at a hospital over the weekend after having been admitted there after suffering a possible heart attack in late January.
Dobbins had reportedly called over the radio for medical assistance shortly after beginning his shift. He was transported to a nearby hospital where doctors assessed that he had a severe heart condition. Staff had hoped to transport him via helicopter to another facility but weather conditions prevented such a flight.
He was transported by ground to that facility where he underwent surgery.
Initial indications were that Dobbins would make a full recovery, but complications set in that ultimately claimed his life.
He is survived by his wife and five children.
