According to ABC News, Kerik was in Florida when he received a call from the White House switchboard asking him to "standby for the President."
Kerik said he had no advanced notice that he would receive a pardon other than hearing rumors from time to time after he had been released from prison in 2013.
" I was working, sitting at my computer," Kerik said. "The president called me. My phone rang. I answered the phone. Somebody identified themselves as working in the White House and to stand by for the president of the United States. They put me on hold, and the phone buzzed twice, and the president picked up."
