An officer with the Atlanta Police Department was reportedly shot and killed in his home early Wednesday, and his wife is facing murder charges in the aftermath of the incident.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 58-year-old Stanley Lawrence was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound following a 911 call.
Chief Erika Shields said in a news release, "Stanley Lawrence was a respected officer who was beloved by his colleagues and the children of our Police Athletic League, where he worked every day to mentor and positively impact their lives. We are deeply saddened, and will miss him terribly. We are doing everything we can to support his family and colleagues as we all grieve this tragic loss."
Lawrence's wife—identified as 49-year-old Tammare Lawrence—now faces charges of felony murder and aggravated assault.
