Officers with the La Mesa (CA) Police Department recently donated $3,000 worth of traffic safety equipment to six local elementary schools to help parents and teachers keep children safe during drop-off and pick-up from school.

The agency posted images of the school visits on Facebook, saying, "This week the La Mesa Police Department delivered more than $3,000 worth of traffic safety equipment to all six of the La Mesa Spring Valley School District Elementary Schools within the City of La Mesa."

The equipment included a variety of new traffic advisory signs that remind drivers to be alert and extra cautious when children are present. The signs are perfect for student drop-off and pick-up areas at our schools.

High visibility hats and whistles—along with training manuals—were purchased for student safety patrol members and crossing guards. The La Mesa Police Department's School Resource Officer works with safety patrol and crossing guards to keep children safe as they walk to and from school.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
