Seattle Officer Nearly Lost Vision to Fireworks Attack During Sunday Riot

“These aren't tiny fireworks, they're not firecrackers, they're commercial-grade mortars… they should be launched hundreds of feet in the air in a safe place to be detonated to put on a fireworks display," Officer Adam Fowler said.

Officer Adam Fowler of the Seattle Police Department says he nearly lost the vision in his left eye when he was hit in the face with the blast of a fireworks mortar Sunday.

“These aren't tiny fireworks, they're not firecrackers, they're commercial-grade mortars… they should be launched hundreds of feet in the air in a safe place to be detonated to put on a fireworks display. They're not meant for weapons," he told King 5.

The attack occurred during an anti-police union demonstration in the city's SODO neighborhood. Later in the night, the demonstration was deemed a riot by Seattle police.

Six officers were injured, and 18 people were arrested during the riot.
