Investigators with the Dallas Police Department are looking into an act of vandalism that left a number of red handprints on the outside walls of the agency's downtown headquarters building as well as the office space of the Dallas Police Association on Thursday night.

According to Fox News, a group of around 30 people had gathered outside their headquarters just prior to the incident, for reasons that are unclear.

"The actions that took place at the Dallas Police Association and Dallas Police Headquarters tonight were not about protesting but a display of criminal activity, plain and simple," said Sergeant Mike Mata, a spokesperson for the Dallas Police Association.
