A user interface from Spillman Technologies is helping Wisconsin public safety agencies submit law enforcement data to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to the company.

Spillman is the first vendor to create an interface that allows Wisconsin agencies to submit data to the Wisconsin Justice Information Sharing (WIJIS) program office in N-DEx format.

N-DEx, or the Law Enforcement Data Exchange system, allows law enforcement agencies throughout the nation to share incident and case reports, booking and incarceration data, and parole and probation information. The system is being developed by the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division.

Nine agencies, including the Monroe Police Department, Green County Sheriff's Office, Monticello Police Department, New Glarus Police Department, Albany Police Department, Brodhead Police Department, Glendale Police Department, Whitefish Bay Police Department, and Shorewood Police Department implemented the interface in August.

"The Spillman-WIJIS interface saves time as police and prosecutors can access and share each others' information," according to Glendale Police Chief Tom Czarnyszka.

Wisconsin Justice Gateway Program Coordinator Shelly Fox said the N-DEx program gives agencies the ability to exchange information they would not otherwise be able to.

"This is a way to get information to people on a much wider scale than we were able to before," according to Fox.
