Streamlight, a leading manufacturer of lighting tools for police, recently honored Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) as it celebrated its 25th anniversary. The company increased its 2009 contribution to COPS by serving as the platinum sponsor of the organization’s gala dinner held May 14 at the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel in Washington, D.C., and through added financial support of key COPS programs aimed at survivors of fallen officers.
The COPS gala was held during National Police Week, May 10-16 in Washington, an annual event honoring fallen officers and their families. In honor of the event, Streamlight also donated more than 1,000 Stylus penlights with a blue LED as gifts of remembrance for attendees, including survivors and police officials.
“As the lighting tools brand of choice by law enforcement professionals who put their trust in our products in the line of duty, we are steadfast in our commitment to COPS and National Police Week for the support they provide survivors of fallen officers,” said Streamlight president Brad Penney. “We share a deep commitment to law enforcement, and are proud to increase our sponsorship of COPS programs that help the families of fallen officers re-build their lives. I encourage other corporations with ties to law enforcement to support this fine organization, which provides such valuable services not only to survivors of fallen officers, but also to the law enforcement community in general.”
Streamlight also was a sponsor of the COPS Police Week Luncheon, held during the week-long observance in Washington.
In addition to its sponsorship activities during National Police Week observances, Streamlight’s commitment also extends to increased support of COPS Hands-On Programs that take place throughout the year. Among the programs are COPS Kids Camp and COPS Outward Bound, as well as hands-on programs including the COPS Siblings Retreat, Surviving Spouses Getaway, Parents Retreat, Adult Children Retreat, In-Laws Retreat and Fiancées and Significant Others Retreat.
The company also will support the Traumas of Law Enforcement training program for police officers, a series of three-day sessions conducted across the country. The program helps agencies prepare for and handle the trauma of law enforcement death.
