Verizon Wireless is donating $5,000 through the HopeLine cellphone recycling program to the YWCA of Richmond to rebuild a playground at the organization’s domestic violence shelter in honor of Richmond PD Det. Carol Adams’ mother, Orine, who died in a domestic violence incident.
Adams has herself collected thousands of used wireless phones and chargers through phone recycling drives held in conjunction with the Richmond PD. The collected phones have been donated to the HopeLine program, which recycles and sells the devices and then donates cash and cell phones to benefit domestic violence victims. The program also donates airtime to domestic violence prevention programs and service providers.
