The Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Police Department has signed a contract to license New World Systems' Aegis/MSP Public Safety Solution on the Microsoft platform. The new software will replace New World's Aegis 400 solution, on the IBM iSeries 400 platform, that the department has used since 1998.

"Over 10 years ago, we chose New World after a rigorous review of several software vendors," said Chief Ron Knapp. "At that time, New World clearly excelled and distanced themselves from the competition. Today, many of New World's competitors from 10 years ago are no longer around. We've stayed with New World because the company values and listens to its customers. They have outlasted much of their competition because they continue to offer a stable product and consistently invest heavily in advancing their solutions; Aegis/MSP is a perfect example of this commitment."

New World will provide the department with Aegis/MSP Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Mobile Computing and Field-based Reporting software, developed in-house using proven Microsoft technology, industry-standard Windows Server and SQL Server. The new software will offer the Police Department the same stability and reliability they are used to in New World's software, with easy-to-use Windows-based functionality and simple integration to a broad variety of other applications. The familiar look and feel of New World's software will simplify training, while the sophisticated framework delivers cost and time savings benefits throughout the Department.

"It was clear to us that New World's MSP product was our future," said Chief Knapp. "New World already offers a solid database. The expanded functionality of the MSP software will allow us to do so much more with the software. And, because most people use Microsoft applications in their everyday lives, New World's Aegis/MSP solution will drastically reduce the amount of time we spend training new users."

By adopting the new technology, the police department is ensuring New World's solutions will continue to develop to meet their needs and integrate with other applications far into the future.

"We're not only looking for someone to provide us a good product today, but we're looking for someone to continue to provide a better product tomorrow," said Chief Knapp. "New World is the perfect partner for us because they continue to grow their customer base and continue to advance their software."

The department relies heavily on crime analysis through New World's software to determine deployment of patrols, keeping the City's population of nearly 30,000 residents safe. The new software will improve crime reporting and analysis, with enhanced mapping features and easy-to-use tools to ascertain trends and patterns. The Poughkeepsie Police Department will also receive several updates to the enhanced Mobile Computing solution the Department uses to provide more information to officers on the street. New World's Field-Based Reporting will continue to streamline reporting for officers in their vehicles with electronic submission and approval workflow. This technology helps reduce crime by allowing patrol officers to stay out in the community longer.

"Law enforcement is rapidly changing because of technology," said Chief Knapp. "Our software is just as important to us as any tool we use in our efforts to combat crime. Having a lifelong partner like New World, who knows the value of the software to us and continues to improve their solution, is critical to our efforts to be as efficient as we can be, fight crime and keep our community safe."
