The New York City Police Museum, the official museum of the New York City Police Department, has been selected as September's Fleet Cultural Institution of the Month by Fleet, a financial services company, and NYC & Company, NYC's official tourism marketing arm. This designation honors the Museum's special exhibit, "Stronger Than Ever: The NYPD Responds to 9/11," which opened to the public on Sept. 6, 2002.
The exhibit features never-before-seen artifacts recovered from Ground Zero including a crushed scooter, the trunk of a police cruiser, a damaged siren, and personal items donated by the families of the 23 NYPD officers who lost their lives on September 11. Also on display will be letters from children to the department, as well as books of condolence from police officers around the world. The museum's permanent memorial honoring all members of New York City's uniformed services will also be on view.
