In October, the Department of Homeland Security will begin testing iris-scanning technology at a border checkpoint in McAllen, Texas, as a way to stem illegal immigration and identify fraud, USA Today reports.
The scanners will be tested for two weeks as an option that could supersede fingerprint identification.
The subject walks up to a wall-mounted box camera that quickly scans the iris. The American Civil Liberties Union has objected.
