This is the first year in the 12-year history of C.O.P.S.' highly acclaimed three-day, 21-hour training, "The Traumas of Law Enforcement," that the costs of this training will NOT be met due to cuts from the Department of Justice in grant funding. Concerns of Police Survivors will be paying costs from the general funds of the organization to present seven regional training sessions at the following locations in 2008:

January 7-9: San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department-Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in San Bernardino, CA

January 28-30: American Legion in Richmond, VA

February 11-13: President Abraham Lincoln Hotel & Conference Center in Springfield, IL February 27-29: Doubletree Hotel in Tallahassee, FL

March 5-7: East Syracuse Fire Station #2 in East Syracuse, NY

March 17-19:  Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police in Del City, OK

March 24-26:  Hitching Post Inn: Resort and Conference Center in Cheyenne, WY

The focus of these training sessions is handling line-of-duty death, information on benefits for line-of-duty deaths, the traumatization of law enforcement officers, police suicide, and the issues of the injured officer.

While there is no charge for the training, and registration is mandatory, C.O.P.S. will be expending over $70,000 for these trainings. Registration information can be found  at www.nationalcops.org. The deadline for registration is one month prior to the training.
