Bibb County, Georgia, Sheriff David Davis is using a Facebook video to warn criminals they can be charged with a felony for possessing a device that turns a Glock semi-automatic pistol into an automatic weapon.
Georgia Sheriff Warns Criminals They Face Felony Charges for Having Glock Switches
This device by itself, regardless if it is installed on a slide or not, is classified by the ATF to be a machine gun, which is illegal to possess,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.

In the video, Davis and his gang squad deputies and investigators demonstrate how much firepower a Glock handgun can produce when someone uses a switch to modify it into a machine pistol.
A Glock switch is a “type of auto sear, it functions by applying force to the trigger bar to prevent it from limiting fire to one round of ammunition per trigger pull. This device by itself, regardless if it is installed on a slide or not, is classified by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to be a machine gun, which is illegal to possess,” the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.
“Machine gun conversion devices are turning up more and more in our streets and at crime scenes,” said ATF Resident Agent in Charge Robert Davis. “These conversion devices are being advertised using misleading names and deceptive descriptions to defeat protocols set by internet vendors to prevent the unlawful sale of firearms and avoid detection by law enforcement. ATF and our law enforcement partners will prioritize the safety of our community by working together to keep these devices off our streets.”
“Glock switches make pistols into machine guns. These unlawful devices can cause mayhem, and even death, in the hands of criminals,” said the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia C. Shanelle Booker. “The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and ATF, alongside many law enforcement partners across the area, are working closely with our office to remove these dangerous weapons from the streets and hold criminals accountable for illegally possessing them. I applaud the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for educating the community about these dangerous devices.”
