Nashville will not be able to implement a full rollout of its police body camera program next year due to budget constraints, Mayor John Cooper said Wednesday.
For now, the Metropolitan Nashville PD's pilot program will continue. The city, Cooper said, is still waiting for conclusion from the initial implementation to make better vendor decisions and fine tune cost estimates for an increased program.
Under the limited rollout, about two dozen cameras were given to DUI and traffic officers in March, the Tennessean reports. The city had hoped to deploy an additional 20 cameras to patrol officers for three to six months in May. But for now, that will not be happening.
