The Volusia County (FL) Sheriff's Office reports that deputies searching the Hurricane Ian swollen St. Johns River by boat “rescued” an American flag.

"Today on the rising St. Johns River in Osteen, deputies saw an American flag in need of rescue," the agency wrote on Facebook.

Residents reported that the flag had been set up as a memorial before the river rose and drowned. Deputies went back to the site and set it back up high enough to be out of the water, the agency reports.
