TX Suspect Slips Cuffs, Drives Off with Patrol Unit

The sheriff's office says Ruiz led them on a chase from Poteet to Pleasanton where he tried to run over a Pleasanton police officer. He was taken into custody after driving into a Poteet police patrol car.

A man was arrested after he slammed a patrol car, slipped out of his handcuffs, and then led police on a chase that spanned several cities in Atascosa County, TX, on Sunday.

47-year-old Reynaldo Ruiz is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon and felony escape.

The sheriff's office says it all began after Ruiz rear-ended an officer's patrol unit at a stop sign. The officer followed Ruiz who allegedly then rammed the patrol car again this time head-on. Ruiz was caught by two other officers and placed in the back seat of a patrol unit. He then allegedly slipped out of his handcuffs, jumped into the front seat, and took off.
