Aurora Theater Massacre Survivor Marries Officer Who Responded to the Attack

After dropping off the letter at Gateway High School, Cody and Lasamoa went to lunch at Chipotle. What was supposed to be an hour lunch turned into four hours.

Ten years ago, a shooter walked into a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, CO, killing 12 people and wounding 70 others.

Lasamoa Lanier, then Lasamoa Cross, went to the "Dark Knight Rises" premiere with her fiancé, AJ Boik. Eighteen-year-old Boik was killed by the gunman. Cross survived.

During the trial after the shooting, she heard the testimony of police officers who shared just as much trauma as she did on July 20, 2012, 9News reports.

She decided to write letters to Aurora police officers to thank them.

Officer Cody Lanier got one of those letters. He was Lasamoa’s former school resource officer at Gateway High.

After dropping off the letter at Gateway High School, Cody and Lasamoa went to lunch at Chipotle. What was supposed to be an hour lunch turned into four hours.

Nine years after that lunch, they got married in October 2021. They served Chipotle at their wedding rehearsal dinner.

“Beauty from ashes, man. I don’t know what I would do without her,” Cody said.
