NJ Officer Killed in Crash with Garbage Truck

Officer Julio Noriega was driving his Honda to work when he crashed into the truck and his vehicle caught fire, the department said on social media.

A North Bergen, NJ, police officer was killed in a crash involving a garbage truck Saturday morning.

Officer Julio Noriega was driving his Honda to work when he crashed into the truck and his vehicle caught fire, the department said on social media.

Noriega was pulled from his vehicle and transported to the hospital where he died, the Huson County View reports.

He was sworn in nearly three years ago to the day as part of a five-person class and was named Officer of the Month in September 2020 for recovering a stolen TV, getting a confession from the thief, and arresting him.
