AZ Deputy Fatally Struck by Vehicle at End of Pursuit

Sgt. Michael Rudd was struck by a commercial vehicle. Rudd was taken to a hospital in Blythe, California, where he died from his injuries.

A La Paz County, AZ, sheriff's deputy was killed in a vehicle collision on Interstate 10 near Quartzsite early Monday.

Chief Deputy David Gray told The Arizona Republic that Sgt. Michael Rudd picked up the pursuit of a fraudulent schemes suspect after the suspect fled from Quartzsite police.

Gray said state troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety disabled the suspect's vehicle with spike strips and that the troopers, along with La Paz County Sheriff's deputies and Quartzsite police, were able to take the suspect into custody. 

Gray said that during the investigation, Rudd was struck by a commercial vehicle. Rudd was taken to Palo Verde Hospital in Blythe, California, but ultimately died from his injuries.
