Gov. Ron DeSantis has committed Florida’s law enforcement support to Texas and Arizona officers working the border crisis.

DeSantis offered the aid during a news conference in Pensacola on Wednesday afternoon. He was joined by leaders from multiple law enforcement agencies at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office as he called on more agencies to aid in what he called a chaotic crisis.

The governor said Florida is the first state to answer the calls for help to secure the border, adding that several Florida law enforcement agencies are already preparing resources, ClickOrlando reports.

“It is both a disaster and an emergency,” the governor said. “Where the federal government has failed, the states are stepping up.”

The Florida governor said there has been an uptick in the presence of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and overdoses in the state due to the illegal substances crossing the border with migrants.
