Just before 6:15 A.M. Sunday, the driver of a silver Toyota FJ Cruiser aimed his vehicle at the front entrance to the Leicester (MA) Police Station and hit the gas.

“He repeatedly rammed those doors until he gained entry with his vehicle into the building,” said Worcester County DA Joseph Early.

“The man exited the vehicle and immediately shouldered what appeared to be a rifle and aimed it at the police officers,” said Early.

The officers shot first, striking the driver an undisclosed number of times. The officers attended to the wounded suspect, Early said, until EMTs arrived. He was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Boston 25 reports.

The deceased suspect has been identified by officials as Zachary Richardson, 24.
