Two Arizona DPS troopers sitting in an unmarked vehicle but in uniform were ambushed Thursday morning in Phoenix. Multiple rounds were fired at them from a rifle and both escaped injury. The 17-year-old suspected shooter is in custody. A second suspect is the subject of a manhunt.

DPS officials say the escaped suspect drove up to troopers, honked his horn, and a teen sitting in the passenger seat got out and attempted to shoot them with an "assault rifle," Fox News reports.

The troopers got out of their vehicle and returned fire, department spokesman Bart Graves said. The driver fled, leaving the suspected shooter at the scene., according to AZCentral.
