A former officer with the Atlanta Police Department who was involved in the fatal shooting of a man in a fast food restaurant parking lot in June, has filed suit against Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and interim police Chief Rodney Bryant over his firing.

According to NPR, Officer Garrett Rolfe's attorneys claim that his use of deadly force against 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks in June was justifiable.

The lawsuit states that Rolfe has "suffered irreparable injury to his personal and professional reputation as a result of his unlawful dismissal."

The lawsuit goes on to say, "As a result of the unlawful action of the Respondent, the Petitioner has become a public spectacle and object of ridicule. His unlawful termination was unnecessarily public and has attracted national media attention."

Rolfe faces 11 charges—including felony murder—in Brooks' killing.
