A man is in custody after he reportedly assaulted an officer with the Mattoon (IL) Police Department over the weekend.
According to Fox News, the subject—identified as 31-year-old Joshua Neff—was reportedly intoxicated and became verbally and physically aggressive toward the responding officer.
The officer—who had been called about a domestic incident—attempted to calm Neff but the man became belligerent and reportedly attacked the officer as the officer attempted to detain him.
Neff allegedly hit the officer multiple times before he was eventually detained.
The condition of the officer has not been released.
Neff has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and resisting arrest.
