An officer with the Hazel Park (MI) Police Department fired three shots when a fleeing suspect reportedly backed up her car as the officer walked behind the vehicle early Friday morning.

According to the Daily Tribune, Hazel Park Police Lieutenant William Hamel said that the officer was in fear for her life of being struck by the vehicle and she discharged her firearm.

The suspect—identified only as a 32-year-old Ferndale woman—drove away and ultimately crashed her car into a fire hydrant.
