Texas Officer Shoots His Own Son, Mistaking Him for Intruder

An off-duty officer with the Dallas Police Department was entering his home when he encountered a man he thought to be an intruder. He opened fire without realizing that the man was his own son.

An off-duty officer with the Dallas Police Department was entering his home when he encountered a man he thought to be an intruder. He opened fire without realizing that the man was his own son.

According to USA Today, the officer found that his garage door was open, and doors that had been unlocked were locked. He decided to check out the home himself before summoning local police with a 911 call.

When the officer encountered the man, he opened fire, striking him in the arm. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.

The identities of the officer and his son have not been released.
