The Greenland (NH) Police Department has adopted a 12-week-old golden retriever mix to serve as a "comfort dog" for officers and victims of crimes.

According to the Bangor Daily News, K-9 Willow was one of more than 100 dogs seized as part of a neglect/cruelty case over the summer.

Greenland Police Chief Tara Laurent said that the dog will assist Greenland police with community engagement and public relations, but the foundation of the comfort dog program is "built around mental health, victim's advocacy, and trauma."
