The sergeant with the Portage County Sheriff's Office who was set on fire late last week has been released from the hospital.
According to reports, 49-year-old Jay Edward Brannon ignited a can of flammable liquid and made threats that he would "kill the cops." He then threw the can at officers, striking Sergeant James Acklin.
Acklin left the hospital "in real good spirits," according to Portage County Sheriff David Doak.
The sheriff posted on his Facebook page that Acklin "is a very humble guy and doesn’t care for the 'limelight'... he expressed to me he and his family want to THANK everyone for the texts, phone calls, social media posts, and especially your prayers and well wishes."
Sergeant Acklin—who suffered burns on 20 percent of his body—faces additional recovery before returning to duty.
Brannon faces charges of attempted aggravated murder and aggravated arson in the case. He also faces felony drug charges that led up to the incident.
