An officer with the Barberton (OH) Police Department who was shot during a standoff with a domestic violence suspect has undergone surgery and is now listed in stable condition, according to an announcement issued by the agency.

According to CBS News, Officer Brandon Watson sustained gunshot wounds to both legs. Surgery was successful, the department said, and Watson is now in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

"The Barberton (OH) Police Department and the family would like to thank everyone in the community and surrounding area for their calls and messages of love and support," the department said in a written statement.

"In addition, we'd like to thank the tactical medics on the SWAT team, the New Franklin Fire Department and all medical personnel at Akron City Hospital for their quick and responsive care and treatment of our brother officer."
