Investigators are looking into the recent death of an officer with the Chicago Police Department, with early reports indicating that a self-inflicted gunshot wound was the cause of death. If that early information is confirmed, that would make six officers with the department to die by suicide since last summer.

Investigators are looking into the recent death of an officer with the Chicago Police Department, with early reports indicating that a self-inflicted gunshot wound was the cause of death.

If that early information is confirmed, that would make six officers with the department to die by suicide since last summer.

According to CBS News, the department has increased efforts to connect counselors and chaplains with officers on the street.

Contacts between officers and their families with the Chicago PD's mental health assistance program more than doubled between 2013 and 2017.
