The Waco (TX) Police Department has announced that it will resume its K-9 program after a temporary pause.

According to KWTX-TV, the agency paused the program after a K-9— a Belgian Malinois—attacked his handler and would not obey commands to stop.

Officers had to shoot and kill the K-9 in order to save the officer from further injury.

"We just look forward to getting this behind us and moving forward with our K-9 unit," Sgt. Patrick Swanton said.
