An officer with the Casper (WY) Police Department wounded in a May 2018 gunfight has decided to retire.

According to Laramie Live, 27-year-old Jacob Carlson is retiring to focus on his health and his family, saying, "Both my physical and mental health have steadily declined."

Officer Carlson was wounded in a gunfight with 38-year-old David Wolosin, who was killed in the exchange.

Officer Carlson underwent multiple surgeries during his recovery.
