Marine units from federal, state, and local agencies teamed up with the United States Coast Guard for a training exercise on the Mississippi River in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area on Wednesday, according to TwinCities.com.

According to Coast Guard Lieutenant Matt MacKillop, two Coast Guard Auxiliary boats and multiple other boats from various law enforcement agencies participated in the training exercise aimed at testing crew capabilities in order to better respond and assist during a maritime emergency.

"Any opportunity for the Coast Guard to train and operate with our local partners is another occasion for us to be more ready and responsive in a time for crisis," said Coast Guard Captain Scott Stoermer.
