CIA: Is Our Work with NYPD Legal?

David Petraeus, the CIA director, told Congress on Tuesday that its inspector general will review work done with the NYPD to "make sure we are doing the right thing."

The Central Intelligence Agency has opened an internal inquiry into whether its partnership with the New York Police Department violates federal law prohibiting it from domestic intelligence gathering.

David Petraeus, the CIA director, told Congress on Tuesday that its inspector general will review work done with the NYPD to "make sure we are doing the right thing."

The head of the NYPD's intelligence unit, David Cohen, is a former CIA official, and the agency has a senior clandestine officer embedded in the police force.
