Mehserle Takes the Witness Stand

During the hour of testimony, Mehserle described his childhood dream of becoming a police officer, discussed Taser training and said he thought Officer Anthony Pirone has an aggressive style to his police work.

Johannes Mehserle took the witness stand Thursday to begin his testimony of what will eventually include him describing the shooting of the unarmed Oscar Grant during a Jan. 1, 2009 arrest that led to the officer's trial on second-degree murder charges in Los Angeles, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

During the hour of testimony, Mehserle described his childhood dream of becoming a police officer, discussed Taser training and said he thought Officer Anthony Pirone has an aggressive style to his police work.

Mehserle will describe the shooting Friday and will face cross examination.
