The memorial "Faithful Partner," recently unveiled at the University of California, Davis, honors the service and sacrifice of California police dogs.
The memorial is a life-size bronze sculpture of a German shepherd K-9 officer that contains room for plaques dedicated to police K-9s who have given their lives for their handlers and the communities they served. The memorial currently contains plaques honoring 23 dogs who gave their lives between 1976 and April 2002.
California Attorney General Bill Lockyer delivered the keynote address at the dedication ceremony, which included K-9s and handlers from departments throughout California.
