The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering its federal agents the choice of a pair of Glocks — the Gen4 G22 or G27 that are both chambered in .40-caliber — as a duty sidearm, according to the Georgia firearms maker.
The ATF awarded Glock Inc. a contract known as Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ), an unrestrictive, 10-year contract that could be worth as much as $40 million if fully utilized.
For the first time, ATF agents are eligible to carry either the Gen4 G22 or G27. The terms also provide other federal agencies with the opportunity to purchase the firearms via the contract in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
"Glock was chosen over others due to the new design features of the Gen4 pistol, Safe Action System [and the] reliability and durability that have made Glock pistols famous," said Josh Dorsey, Glock's vice president. "Glock's focus remains on providing safe, simple and fast pistols to those that go in harm's way to protect the freedom that we all currently enjoy."
