The corporate parent of Winchester announced a recall of six lots of Ranger .223 Remington 64-grain Power-Point rifle ammunition, because it "may contain incorrect propellant," according to a company statement.
The Olin Corp. is recalling lots with numbers (last four characters) of DK01, DK11, DK21, DK31, DK41, and DK51. The ammunition carries the Symbol Number RA223R2.
After evaluating the lots, Winchester moved forward with the recall. Incorrect propellant in this ammunition may cause firearm damage, rendering the firearm inoperable, and subject the shooter or bystanders to a risk of serious personal injury when fired, according to the statement.
At this time, the company asks law enforcement agencies not to use the ammunition.
To locate the lot number, view the right tuck flap of the 20-round carton, where the number is ink stamped. If you discover a recalled lot, contact Winchester at (866) 423-5224 to arrange for replacement ammunition. The company is offering free UPS pick-up of the recalled ammunition.
