Two new handguns and a carbine conversion package made SIG Sauer an active handgun news maker in the pistol category at SHOT Show 2012.

SIG brought the first working versions of its P938 pistol, a 9mm version of its own P238 concealed carry gun in .380 ACP. Word of the single-action P938 leaked out in late 2011, and the gun should be available by mid-year. The P238 is often compared to Colt's .380 Mustang Pocketlite , a classic semi-auto that was re-introduced this year.

The SIG 938 is expected to be offered in familiar SIG packages such as the Blackwood , Equinox , Rosewood , and Extreme . Night sights are standard. A TRUGLO tritium-fiber night sight will be offered as an upgrade. Capacity is 6+1 rounds. The 938s range in price from $795 to $823.

SIG also introduced the P224 sub-compact pistol in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG with either a DAK or DA/SA trigger system. The P224 will be offered in four versions, including the Anti-Snag , Equinox , Nickel , and Extreme . The P224s range in price from $1,125 to $1,218.

SIG also introduced the Adaptive Carbine Platform (ACP), a carbine conversion kit that fits with most SIG pistols, as well as many non-SIG pistols. The housing provides a stabilized longer-range platform with a Picatinny rail, allowing operators to use a variety of lights, optics, and lasers. The ACP will be available in a basic platform, as well as a version (ACP-L) that includes a mini red dot and single-point bungee sling.

A law enforcement version includes a slide-folding stock. Any pistol used with this version would need to be registered as a Short Barreled Rifle with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The ACP retails for $479.
