A military rocket launcher without the rocket was among the 1,673 firearms accepted by the Los Angeles Police Department for destruction over the weekend.

The green launcher was a training launcher but could likely have been modified, Lt. Andrew Nieman told POLICE Magazine. The department gave Los Angeles residents gifts cards for groceries of Visa purchases of $100 for pistols and $200 for long guns.

Among the weapons, the department accepted 791 handguns; 53 asssault rifles; and 893 miscelaneos rifles, shotguns, and other guns.

Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa showed off the weapons collected at six locations at a Monday news conference outside the LAPD's headquarters.
